Whether living on a yacht for seven years of one’s childhood or racing around the globe on any number of far-flung foreign adventures, played any part in Nereid’s long-standing love of all things fish, we’ll probably never know. What we can concede is that rummaging around London’s buzzing network of farmers’ markets in 2005 provided our foodie founder with the initial spark to give fishcakes and fishpies a long overdue makeover. It was seeing long-forgotten heroes like posh, podgy bangers, chunky chutneys, jellies and luxurious meat pies working hard to recapture the imaginations of the capital’s foodie fraternity that convinced Nereid that it was high time fish found a new voice. Going back-to-basics has been the simple, successful mantra behind Nereid and her team’s rising reputation. An appealing small company philosophy means minimal mechanization, a stubborn refusal to embrace any artificial ingredients and a dogged desire to never stand still.
Whether we’re talking seasonal specials, wheat/gluten free or something a little more left field, you can rest assured that the two fishwives voyage of discovery has only just begun.
